How does laser hair removal work?
As the laser is moved through a specific body part desired, the light passes through your skin and gets absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicles. The heat generated by the laser breaks apart the follicle. Over the next 10 days the hair will gradually fall out.
How many sessions will it take?
Most areas can be treated in about 6 to 12 sessions, however, the number of sessions depends on hair and skin type, and the size of the area being treated.
Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Longer wavelengths allow for treatment of all skin colors, but works best on hair with pigment. It is safe to use on children. Laser hair removal is an excellent choice for men and women who have unwanted hair on their face, neck, arms, underarms, back, legs, bikini area, hands and feet.
How does the skin look after it has been treated?
Typically the skin is a little red or swollen, but only for a short period of time. Of course, this varies from client to client, depending on their skin type and the extent of the treatment.
Is it okay to shave to sunbathe immediately prior to treatment?
No, because the laser targets the melanin in the follicle beneath the skin, it is best to shave at least 12 hours prior to treatment. Tanning should be avoided 5 days prior to the treatment and 5 days after. Waxing, plucking, bleaching, and electrolysis should be discontinued. ONLY SHAVING!!!!
Is the treatment completely safe?
Yes. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to vaporize the pigment and affecting numerous hair follicles at one time, while sparing the surrounding tissue. Laser hair removal has been safely used since 1983 and is FDA approved.
Is laser hair removal painful?
In most cases there is little pain. The laser actually keeps the skin very comfortable during treatment. However there are some clients who are more sensitive than others, in which an ice pack can be applied before the treatment begins.
